About this Event
TCC's 40th Taiwan Night Concert Honors America's 250th.
Taiwan Night in Washington, D.C. began forty years ago as a humble show of Taiwanese folk songs. Through the dedicated efforts of many pioneers, it has quietly evolved into a large-scale concert event of today.
This year, we once again bring together an outstanding lineup of distinguished Taiwanese musicians: flutist Professor Pei-San Chiu of Indiana University Jacob School of Music; Professor Hsiao-Ying Lin of the University of Maryland- Baltimore County, who also serves as Coordinator of Collaborative Piano at the Peabody Institute; and renowned pianist Professor Jenny Lin, currently the Music Director at The Phillips Collection.
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, we are especially honored to feature Trio Sirenes, formed by three musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: violist Karin Brown, flutist Marcia McHugh and harpist Jacqueline Pollauf. They will perform newly arranged works by Professor Chen-Yu Huang—three beloved Taiwanese folk songs, “Grasshopper Teasing the Rooster,” “Bang Chhun Hong (Longing for the Spring Breeze),” and “Dark Sky”—infused with vibrant modern performance techniques.
This is a truly special year. Join us on May 23 for a world-class cultural celebration—an extraordinary gathering not to be missed for two and a half centuries.
