“Our Earth Is Never Quiet! What Is It Telling Us?”
(Seismology for Societal Resilience, From Earthquakes to Water Resources)
Speaker: New Chaninthon (Chaninthon Rattanavetchasit), Doctoral Researcher in Geosciences at National Taiwan University and Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan
Seismology is the science of earthquakes, but seismology can also tell us incredible details about our world and our society. Our speaker New Chaninthon teaches us the basics of earthquakes and how seismology has opened the door to studying “Ambient Noise”. We’ll learn how our global fiber optic network has given us a planetary microphone to listen to what the earth is telling us — everything from war to groundwater to whales and concerts!
Speaker Bio: New Chaninthon graduated from Chiang Mai University, and is now completing her PhD in Geosciences at National Taiwan University and Academia Sinica.
