Tacoma Rising is hosting a workshop in partnership with the University of Washington Tacoma to promote connections between the emerging talent at the school and local businesses to provide a real world opportunity to students.
This year’s focus: The Swiss Hall, an iconic site needing fresh ideas. Located in the heart of the UWT campus and a prior gathering place for the community, this property could connect the Tacoma people with the campus and its students. Teams will collaborate on innovative solutions while gaining real-world experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
SCHEDULE:
9:00 AM - 12:30 PM | Innovation Workshop (Closed Session – Students & Business Mentors Only)
Local businesses and student teams will come together to tackle a real-world challenge: reimagining the future of The Swiss property. With the University of Washington Tacoma unveiling its new master plan, teams will develop creative solutions to transform this iconic space into a thriving hub that benefits the campus and the greater Tacoma community.
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM | Networking Lunch: Connect & Collaborate
Join fellow Tacoma business leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members for a dynamic networking session. Meet passionate individuals who are shaping Tacoma’s future while enjoying a delicious catered lunch from Two Busy to Cook—a local favorite known for its incredible flavors.
1:30 PM - 3:00 PM | Student Presentations: The Future of The Swiss
The moment of truth! Student teams will take the stage to pitch their bold ideas for repurposing The Swiss in alignment with UWT’s Master Plan. A panel of expert judges and the public audience will hear innovative concepts that could define Tacoma’s next chapter.
3:00 PM - 3:30 PM | Meet the Teams: Future Leaders & Big Ideas
While the judges deliberate, take this opportunity to engage directly with the student teams. Hear their inspirations, discuss their ideas, and connect with the next generation of Tacoma’s changemakers.
3:30 PM | The Grand Reveal: Winning Team Announced!
After an exciting day of collaboration, innovation, and community spirit, the winning team will be announced! Celebrate the creativity and hard work of the students who are helping shape the future of Tacoma.

Parking:
Extended parking is available in the Tioga lot located at 1911 Jefferson Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402 as well as the Washington State History Museum parking lot located at 1911 Pacific Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402. You can also find limited street parking along Pacific Ave, Commerce Street off of 21st, and Jefferson Ave.
