Mazurkas, polkas, dumka, and the odzemek, just some of the styles of dance that Dvořák took inspiration from when writing his 'Slavonic Dances' and 'Czech Suite', both performed in this afternoon concert by the University Symphony Orchestra. Malcom Arnold's 'Flute Concerto No. 1, Op. 45' will also be performed by the orchestra with the 2024 Soloist Competition Winner, Anthony Howe. The String Orchestra continue the dancing with the opening jig from Holst jovial 'St Paul’s Suite', followed by a treat for Sherlock Holmes fans.
