SYMBIOSIS x Infinite Sums is a collaborative initiative bringing together filmmakers and scientists to create new short films inspired by the beauty of mathematics. Supported by the Simons Foundation as part of its Infinite Sums initiative, the program pairs one filmmaker with one scientist for an intensive two-week production period grounded in exchange, experimentation, and dialogue across disciplines.
The Lab Meeting takes place midway through the program and serves as a central moment of reflection and community. Participating pairs share works-in-progress, discuss their evolving ideas, and speak openly about the creative process — including challenges, discoveries, and unexpected intersections between scientific thinking and cinematic language. The session fosters cross-pollination among teams while offering insight into how collaboration reshapes both artistic and scientific perspectives.
SYMBIOSIS emphasizes process as much as outcome, positioning collaboration itself as a generative space where new forms of storytelling can emerge at the intersection of science, art, and culture.
