The evening kicks off with Kimon Kirk and the Meds, featuring members of Aimee Mann’s band. Kimon Kirk, John Sands, and Jamie Edwards. Joined by Jim Haggerty on bass and Russell Chudnofsky on guitar. Expect sharp songwriting, deep grooves, and a preview of Kirk’s upcoming double LP Bikini Jardine, with its blend of power pop, Americana, and richly layered rock.
The second set brings Syd Straw, one of the great cult voices of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, backed by the Meds.
Syd Straw was underground royalty in that era, known for her work with the Golden Palominos and for collaborations with artists such as Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), John Doe (X), Ry Cooder, Daniel Lanois, and Richard Thompson. Her singular voice and genre-blurring songs, equal parts folk, blues, and rock, have earned her a devoted following and a reputation as a true original.
