About this Event

The two virtual workshop sessions provide up-to-date evidence and hands-on skill building for suturing, knot-tying, assessment, and repair of common birth lacerations. Education and simulation are combined so that everyone learns by doing. The workshop builds on core competencies for suturing and provides 6 hours CE or Simulation Hours. ACNM Program #2021-154.

The 6-hour workshop is held 9 am-12 pm over two sessions over two days, 7/23 & 7/24

Day One: Knot-tying and Suturing, & Assessment for Birth Lacerations builds on the core competencies for suturing, knot-tying, and assessing tissues for birth lacerations. Focus is on building a learning plan for personal improvement of instrument handling & suturing skills. Identification of anatomy & assessment after birth prepare the participant for Day Two. This session is a prerequisite for Day Two. 3 CE

Day Two: Repair of Birth Lacerations builds on the core competencies for repair of birth lacerations. We'll create perineal and labial laceration models together. Focus is on identification of lacerations, planning and performing a repair, and application of the suturing and knot-tying skills during simulated repair of birth lacerations. 3 CE

As part of this workshop participants will receive a suturing model, suturing instruments, and suture. Participants will need to purchase their choice of 3-dimentional foam or tissue models for Day Two. The workshop includes presentations, demonstrations, and mentored simulation during the scheduled workshop dates.

*Registration closes two weeks before event begins to allow time for supplies to be shipped.*

There is 1 Reparations Ticket per session for a Black or Indigenous midwife whose ancestors were affected by historic enslavement or genocide. Ticket cost is 10% of full ticket price and includes all materials.

There is 1 Pay-What-You-Can-Ticket so that financial need is not a barrier to any midwife who wishes to attend. Financial documentation is not required. Please pay according to your budget. We strongly recommend a minimum payment that covers the cost of materials @ $80.
