About this Event

Photographic artist Jess Holdengarde and The Real Photography Company have come together to create an exciting new programme this summer and we can't wait to share it with you!

Six sessions start on Mon 26th June and take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings until Weds 12 July
6 - 8.30pm

This innovative Summer School evening course will delve into many aspects of analogue and darkroom-based photography, with recycled and sustainable materials and home-made darkroom chemistry as the focus.

We will use pinhole cameras made from drinks cans as well as traditional film cameras and 35mm film, and you will learn how to process your own film in coffee based developer. We will then make prints using developer brewed from plants we will forage from local parks, gardens and allotments. You will find out how to make enlargements from your negatives, and also have time to experiment in the Darkroom to make phytograms - unique prints created using daylight, photographic paper and local plants which are processed in plant-based developer.

These processes are so accessible you will be able to use the techniques learned at home and in the garden, using everyday kitchen ingredients.

The course will be taught by plant-based photographic artist Jess Holdengarde, pinhole photography expert Justin Quinnell and black and white darkroom specialist Ruth Jacobs. Together we have a wealth of experience and expertise ready to share.

Perfect for beginners and experienced photographers alike, or artists and horticulturists who want to gain an understanding of analogue photographic practices embedded in sustainable processes. No previous experience necessary. Book your place now as numbers are limited to 10 to ensure space in the Darkrooms.

Fee includes materials.
