About this Event
Join Evergreen Bio and My Green Lab for an engaging and action-oriented event exploring the intersection of climate change, healthcare, and the life sciences sector.
Presenter: James Connolly, CEO My Green Labs and Impact Laboratories
The session will begin with a high-level perspective on the environmental impact of healthcare globally, unpacking the sector’s significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption. From there, we will connect this footprint to the broader global movement linking climate and health, highlighting why sustainability is increasingly central to both patient outcomes and system resilience.
We will then examine how climate change is already shaping global health outcomes—from increased disease burden and supply chain disruption to rising operational costs and system strain—making this not only an environmental issue, but a core healthcare challenge.
Building on this foundation, the session will move into practical solutions across three levels of impact:
- Healthcare systems: strategies to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and enhance resilience at scale
- Laboratories: actionable steps to drive sustainability in research and clinical environments without compromising quality
- Global initiatives: including leadership movements such as the United Nations Race to Zero, Science Based Target Initiative, Ecovadis, Practice Green Health, Join Commissions Healthcare Certification, and My Green Lab Certification and how organizations can align with international frameworks to accelerate progress
Participants will leave with practical, immediately applicable actions to integrate sustainability into their daily work and personal lives. Attendees will also receive a My Green Lab Ambassador Certificate, equipping them to champion sustainable practices within their organizations and networks.
The program will be followed by a panel discussion featuring sustainability leaders from the Spokane healthcare and life sciences community, offering local perspectives on challenges, opportunities, and innovation in the region.
We will conclude with a happy hour reception, providing an opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and build peer-to-peer relationships within Spokane’s rapidly growing bioeconomy ecosystem.
