Join Sussex Trail Runners for a spectacular 22 km (13.7 miles) point-to-point trail run from Hastings to Rye, following the historic Saxon Shore Way and 1066 Country Walk. With 550 meters (1,800 feet) of elevation gain, this route offers a mix of coastal cliffs, ancient woodland, open marshland, and centuries of history underfoot.Starting in Hastings Old Town, we’ll climb quickly onto the clifftops of the Saxon Shore Way, with dramatic views over the English Channel. The route winds through wooded trails and open fields, eventually joining the 1066 Country Walk, which leads us through the historic hilltop town of Winchelsea, rich with medieval charm.
From there, we descend onto the flatlands of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, passing the imposing ruins of Camber Castle, once part of Henry VIII’s coastal defences. The final stretch into Rye takes us through the wetlands and winding tracks of the Rother Estuary, finishing in one of Sussex’s most picturesque and historic towns.
