Susquehanna Nature Journal Club July 2026 Gathering

Boat tickets now available. This event will include the optional boat ride for which ticket is purchased seperately https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/susqnha/items/708845/?full-items=yes . We need a minimum of 16 tickets purchased for the boat to host this special 10 am launch exclusive for our group. PARKING IS AT KLINES RUN PARK which is a short distance from the Zimmerman Center and they will be running a shuttle van starting at 9am. There is time for touring the Zimmerman Center and Nature Space. Dean Evans will present on insects at the pavillion in Klines Run Park where the nature journaling session will take place. This will be a full day with variety of experiences. Prepare to be outdoors and bring water, snack, lunch. Review the AGENDA section below for more details. If not taking the boat cruise then arrive for Dean's presentation at 1pm and the workshop or to tour the Zimmerman Center at 11:30 am.

Info: Arrive for parking at Klines Run Park. Gather belongings in preparation for the boat ride. Hop on the shuttle to be taken a short distance to the Zimmerman Center for check-in preparing for boat ride. Nature Journaling supplies are totally optional and not needed for the boat ride.

Info: At the Zimmerman center the shuttle driver will deliver you to the welcome area to check-in for the boat ride. After which a short walk down the hill and across the road to the river side and the boat dock.

Info: From the boat dock board the Chief Uncas for the cruise on the Susquehanna River. Tickets for the boat ride must be purchased individually and in advance. As soon as the tickets are available for the purchase and email will be sent to attendees. There must be a minimum of 16 to run this exclusive boat ride and there is limited seating. Once tickets are available for purchase - buy quickly!

Info: Option to tour the Zimmerman Center and the Nature Space. The shuttle will be running folks back to Klines Run Park during this time as well. This is also an opportunity to enjoy bag lunch either in the Nature Space or at Klines Run Park.

Info: Hop on the final runs of the shuttle van back to Klines Run Park. The shuttle will be running prior to this time. First runs back will begin as soon as boat ride ends.

Info: An entomologist first and foremost, Dean loves lecturing about insects and will talk about one of Pennsylvania’s most unique insects! Dean is a recent graduate of the Pennsylvania Master Naturalist program and 2026 marks a milestone for Dean as it is his 50th year of being an insect collector and naturalist. Dean’s collection of natural history specimens — from rocks, minerals, crystals to fossils to taxidermy to insects to shells, bones, and plants — number close to 50,000!

Info: Time to sketch, paint, draw, write. Open your journal and record the experiences and things that have been a part of this event. Gain inspiration from the insects, the Zimmerman Center, or the boat ride. Fill a page or more. (Note: feel free to carry your journal with you through out the day and make entry)
