Unexpected Songs showcases the artistry of a performer celebrated for her soaring soprano and charming presence, in a program that reflects both her Broadway roots and her gift for storytelling through song.
ABOUT SUSAN DERRY
Susan Derry is a dynamic performer known for her radiant soprano and emotionally compelling presence. She has graced stages on Broadway, in Europe, and across the DC region. Offstage, she dedicates her time to mentoring the next generation of performers as a voice instructor at American University. Her solo shows center on honest storytelling and songs that reflect life's unexpected twists and deep joys, brightening any venue with her signature mix of vulnerability and strength. “Creativity, to me, is an act of compassion—and cabaret is my favorite way to express it,” shared Derry. “I love that songs can tell us the story of who we are as humans. Cabaret helps us feel seen, and it reminds us that we’re not really so different from one another. You never know what someone might need to hear, or what you might be able to offer, and that exchange of energy is truly magical. To have this residency—to grow as an artist and revel in that communal joy right here in the DMV, my hometown—is an honor. I’m absolutely thrilled!”
