About this Event
About the Event
Surrey has long inspired some of Britain’s most celebrated painters.
Both J.M.W. Turner and John Constable painted in Surrey, capturing its rivers, countryside and rural charm. Later in the nineteenth century, Victorian artists further explored the county’s artistic potential.
The Pre-Raphaelites, Redgrave, Cole, Foster, Allingham, Hook, Lawson and Watts are just some of the painters who created works depicting Surrey’s landscapes, cottages and rural life.
In this engaging lecture, Hilary Underwood explores the rich artistic heritage of Surrey and introduces the artists who helped shape the county’s reputation as a source of artistic inspiration.
A fascinating evening for anyone interested in art, landscape painting and local heritage.
