WORKSHOP: JULY 4TH- 5TH: 11 AM-4 PMCome join us for this exploration into playful movement and dance, exploring the exciting dynamics of a free-form improvisational partner dance. Contact Improvisation is a mind-body practice, developing sophisticated physical coordination and awareness of our mind-body patterns in movement and relationship. Contact Improvisation is an all-body workout, using every muscle, conditioning integrated holistic movement. We dance surfing on waves of movement. The movement massaged our bodies and minds.
We will study functional anatomy and biomechanics to understand how to fly and fall, meeting the floor with soft, flexible bodies. We explore how we enter and leave relationships. We study how to move effortlessly with flexibility and adaptability.
This workshop is idea for both beginners and experienced dancers, as we will approach Contact Improvisation in a new way, from the principles of Axis Syllabus and functional alignment. All welcome! Learn how to move with joy and freedom!

WHAT TO BRING: Important! Please bring many warm layers and double layers! Long sleeves, long pants and double layers of clothing will make a happy relationship with the floor! If you sweat a lot, you can bring extra clothing to keep yourself and others dry and happy!

Course Instructor
Chrystabel Butler brings a wide range of experience to movement and dance. With a background in competitive gymnastics, she has pursued research and teaching in various somatic dance modalities. She has taught Contact Improvisation in UK, Japan, Bulgaria, Egypt and Australia. Engaged with intensive study of Axis Syllabus since 2014, passionate about approaching dance through an understanding of anatomy, physics and biomechanics, she currently leads classes and workshops in Axis Syllabus Inspired Movement and Dance.
She is a certified Integrative Psychotherapist, Dance Movement Therapist, with a Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy. She has been leading workshops in Somatic Dance and Creative Psychotherapy since 2009. She also provides personal movement coaching through authentic movement and rehabilitative modalities. As a certified instructor for Yoga and Pilates since 2007, she has taught rehabilitative yoga and Pilates in Australia and Japan.
