Join Clemson Extension on Saturay, May 16 to build a rain garden in Surfside Beach! The half-day workshop will include hands-on experience in rain garden shaping, soil amendments, planting, and discussion on site assessment and maintenance considerations.
Time: Check-in begins at 8:30am, the workshop will take place from 9:00am-12:00pm.

Description: A rain garden is a landscaped depression that allows rainwater runoff from impervious areas, such as rooftops, driveways and compacted lawn areas, the opportunity to infiltrate and be absorbed, reducing stormwater runoff and associated pollution. Rain gardens are a popular and attractive way for homeowners to manage erosion and moisture control issues, beautify the home landscape, create wildlife habitat and protect clean water downstream.
Target audience: Surfside Beach residents, landscape professionals, Master Gardeners, garden club members, educators
Price per attendee: Free
- This workshop is free to attend, but registration is required through Eventbrite.
Participants must dress to dig, plant in a rain garden, and spread mulch. Please wear clothes that can be washed with closed-toed shoes. A hat, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle are also recommended. Gloves and tools will be provided.
