About this Event

About the Programme

In an increasingly connected world, the rapid spread of misinformation and disinformation is amplified by digital platforms, making individuals and societies more vulnerable to harmful narratives.

One of Singapore’s defining characteristics is multiculturalism, and how we can live as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion. However, as the world around us grows more polarised, fake news and divisive narratives percolate into our borders, and could potentially disrupt the harmony that we hold dear.

Join us at the National Library for this instalment of the SURE Learning Community, where we have special guest speaker Nicholas Fang from Black Dot Research to share on the following:

  • Explore how misinformation spreads through social media, affecting Singapore's multicultural harmony
  • Learn how to identify suspected fake news
  • How to apply effective fact-checking skills

About the SURE Learning Community

The S.U.R.E. Community aims to build and nurture a learning community that is passionate about safeguarding the community from scams and misinformation.

Based on a partnership between the National Library Board’s S.U.R.E. (Source, Understand, Research, Evaluate) programme and CheckMate, a community-based initiative to combat misinformation and scams, members can learn to become more effective practitioners of information literacy through a regular series of community meetings and workshops. They will also get a chance to put their skills into practice via the CheckMate platform.
