About this Event
The Birmingham South Physics Network, hosted at University of Birmingham School, is excited to launch the third of our termly Physics Network sessions on Tuesday 16 June focusing on ‘Supporting Physics Transition from KS2 to KS3.’ Our Physics Network events are designed to support physics specialists, science teachers, PGCE/ECT physicists, and technicians in the delivery of physics across the key stages. In the past, sessions have focussed on teaching best practice, current educational research, how to effectively teach maths skills for physics pupils, and the use of practical activities to enrich physics teaching, including relevant procedures and precautions.
For this session, teachers from both primary and secondary settings are very welcome. It will be an opportunity to learn from each other as we seek to promote physics learning in schools.
Please join us for ideas on how the curriculum bridges the key stages. We will explore resources available for basic electrical circuits, looking at light and sound, and how to establish core content for force interactions. We will also talk about teaching key terms for working scientifically which will support the transition and give opportunity to use data loggers for a simple activity which can be used in primary or secondary settings.
Please bring your ideas to share with the group.
What is the Birmingham South Physics Network?
The Birmingham South Physics Network, hosted at University of Birmingham School, is aimed at professionals teaching Physics in secondary schools (specialist & non-specialist) or those supporting the teaching of Physics (technicians, ITT providers). We are a supportive community offering training opportunities for people at all stages of their career, and enabling practitioners to meet with each other and share ideas.
