After the success of 2025's supervision course, we are excited to be running it again in 2026! Facilitated by two experienced and skilled supervisors, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain a supervision qualification based in Adlerian theory.
Who is this training for?
This training is for those who work in the helping professions who wish to work in a supervisory capacity. Counsellors, medical professionals, social workers and others.

What is the theoretical approach to this training?
The foundational ethical and philosophy and psychology is one of encouragement, of social interest, respect, understanding the dynamic between client, supervisor and supervisee’s style of managing the challenges of life. Adler’s philosophy is holistic and focused on understanding the interactions of humans in relationship. We will explore how to create equal and respectful relationships, and how we develop those in order to create a congruent and safe way of working, with the client at the heart of it.
Some aspects of the course will involve working with specific Adlerian concepts, but the majority of the training will involve exploring counsellor/supervisor relationships, dynamics that occur between people working in depth with each other.
What will the course cover?
We will look at:
- processes in supervision including contracting
- the client/counsellor/supervisor relationship, using various models including Hawkins and Shohet 7-eyed model see (Supervision in the helping professions (2020) Peter Hawkins and Aisling McMahon), which will be our core model. We will also explore other concepts of supervision including those of Proctor and Inskipp.
- the BACP and other ethical frameworks (Adler, NCPS)
fitness to practice
- using supervisory authority; power balances, issues of difference and equality.
- organisation issues and how they impact on counsellors and supervisors
- supervision and the law
- group and peer supervision
The skills we will develop:
- peer supervision groups within the course, in triads (supervisee, supervisor, observer)
- These groups will be regular and will work together throughout the course.
- skills practice such as Socratic questions, challenging, encouraging
- working with trainees: formative and educative elements of supervision
- self disclosure in supervision
- boundary issues
- inter and intra-personal dynamics
- empathy in supervision
- creativity in supervision including use of metaphor
