Attention is fundamental to good writing, and yet in an era of phone-induced attention deficiency, it has become a rarity. If you’re a writer of any kind; poet, novelist, screenwriter or you're in the early stages of discovering your voice, this is a boot camp to develop your attention and supercharge your writing practice.
I’m Cherie Gilmour, a working writer whose words have appeared in The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, ArtsHub, MiNDFOOD magazine, ABC online and The Big Issue among others. I write fiction and non-fiction. I have taught creative writing classes and run writers’ groups over the years. I’m passionate about helping other people find their writing mojo because I know firsthand how easily it can be lost.
In this 6-week masterclass, we will look at practitioners like Austin Kleon (Steal Like an Artist), Rob Walker, Amy Tan and Julia Cameron (The Artist’s Way) among others. Some topics include: how to reclaim attention, the routines and philosophies of the masters, reading like a writer and overcoming setbacks. Each week will be a focused study on these ideas and a series of challenging writing exercises plus homework. By the end of the course, you will have creative ideas and practical tools to deepen your writing practice.
