Recognising the danger to health that the car represented, around 20 years ago, Salvador Rueda set out to transform the city of Barcelona by using Superblocks.
Founding Director of Barcelona's Urban Ecology Agency, Rueda will describe his vision and how he has integrated different sets of information to convince Barcelona to transform its grid pattern across the metropolis.
At a time when Melbourne's CBD faces various challenges, come along for a discussion of the potential that superblocks and ecological urbanism have for the city.

Speaker BioSalvador Rueda was the City of Barcelona's Director of Urban Ecology from 2000-2020 in charge of developing applied research to help the city increase its capacities to sustain life. A psychologist and biologist by training he has worked in public administration since the late 1970s after he co-founded the first urban environmental action group in Spain. He is an author of six books, a co-investigator on 13 EU funded projects as well as advisor to cities across Spain and South America.
