About this Event
A “Super Tuscan” is a colloquial term for high-quality red wines from Tuscany, Italy, that break traditional Italian wine laws (DOC/DOCG) by using non-indigenous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Syrah alongside or instead of the native Sangiovese. Born from winemaker frustration with rigid rules, these wines were initially labeled as basic table wines (Vino da Tavola) but gained fame and high prices for their innovation, quality, and rich, full-bodied style, eventually leading to the IGT classification. In September of 2024 we sampled a broad range of “Super Tuscan” wines. In this installment, we will revisit the category, focusing on some of the higher-end bottles that were the genesis of term. Along with the wines, we will serve a selection of appropriately paired artisanal cheeses and breads. You will not want to miss this event, so sign up today!
