About this Event
If you’ve paddled SUP a couple of times and want to further your development as a paddler then the BCAB Stand Up Paddleboard Sheltered Water Award might be what you are looking for. Steve will give you an understanding of how to plan and paddle an enjoyable and safe trip. You will gain the confidence to journey in larger waters (up to 200 meters from the shore) and in winds up to force 3.
In order to have an enjoyable day out on the water we need to make some key decisions to ensure we are in the right place at the right time. You will consider the weather, wind and water conditions. We will consider the personal protective equipment available and choose the most suitable to keep you safe on the water.
This award will develop a range of skills and knowledge to get you safely through your journey. Balance and control of the board is important. You will learn the correct feet, body positioning and strokes required to keep you balanced. This can be whilst moving forwards or whilst steering the board. Steve will encourage you to investigate how you could adapt your plans if needed should conditions on the water change. Steve will also show you how to rescue yourself or another paddler should they, or you, get into difficulty.
Steve will assess your ability throughout the day. A BCAB Certificate is available (at an additional fee to Paddle UK) if you have met the criteria and would like or need evidence of your attendance on the course.
The SUP Sheltered Water Award is an excellent way to show an employer, a centre, or club that you have learnt the basic skills of paddleboarding. Or maybe to show off to your friends, neighbours and relatives.
Having completed the SUP Sheltered Water Award you might consider the SUP Safer Award.
