Derbyshire born poet and recording artist, Mark Gwynne Jones will perform his award-winning, one-man show Voices from the Peak – Live! at Foxlowe Arts Centre on Friday 16th March.Described by The Times as 'a fascinating quest… An audio odyssey… and some marvellous Derbyshire reflections…’ Here is a journey through the Peak District in word, film and sound, incorporating the unique qualities of people and place.
The show draws on the voices and stories of Mark’s popular series, Voices From The Peak. ‘For some years I’ve been recording the voices, wildlife and atmospheres of the Peak District to create six audio artworks - each following a different story through the region. People’s voices and the way we use words reveal rich connections to the land.’
Reflecting on childhood experiences and encounters with cave dwellers, poachers, shepherds, and mineral miners - Mark’s funny and absorbing performance evokes a landscape rich with both beauty and danger. Along the way we also hear memories of big winters, thoughts on the origins of well dressing, and people’s reactions to the return of ravens to the Peak District following an absence of 150 years.
