Cadets get to do all three!
About this Event
Sunsphere Cadet Squadron
The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is for young people joining between the ages of 12 and 18 and focusses on Leadership, Aerospace, Fitness and Character. Meeting on Thursday evenings in North Knoxville, the Sunsphere Cadet Squadron is the only unit in Knox County. Other local squadrons can be found in Oak Ridge, Sevierville and at McGhee Tyson, Knoxville Airport. For a complete list nationwide, go to our at gocivilairpatrol.com.
Much of the weekly program is run by the cadets under the supervision of Senior (adult) Members. Each evening is broken into three different activities where you will learn by explanation, experimentation and practice. Additional study is done at home by taking interactive courses on line. After completing your first achievement you will receive the Curry Award and become eligible for a series of five flights in a CAP owned powered aircraft and five more in a glider. There is also usually at least one optional weekend event each month. After attending your first encampment you will be eligible to apply for numerous special activities, both in Tennessee and across the USA, and as a senior cadet, you could be selected to participate in the International Air Cadet Exchange.
Adult Membership in CAP
Not all work directly with cadets and you'll be amazed at the variety of opportunities we have to offer, not only in operations (flying, ground and base), but also in administration, education and many other fields. While you must obviously be qualified to fly as a pilot, we also need observers, photographers, communicators and ground personnel, for all of whom we provide training.
Educators
CAP also has a non-operational category of , adults who are teachers in both the public and home-school arenas. CAP provides an extensive range of materials for K-12 including lesson plans, text books and STEM kits.
