Sunday Sessions for Self Sufficiency is a series of topics with Shuswap Food Action's desire to have more Shuswap residents passionate about and able to grow and make their own food and medicine.
Sessions will be held on the Second Sunday of each month with 2 separate topics, the first at 1pm and second at 2pm. Stay for one or both!
Nov 10th
1pm: Garden Review with Sue! Q&A & Planning for the 2025 garden
Host Sue Moore of Sudoa Farms and our Shuswap Community Teaching Garden mentor to review this past year of gardening and some basic planning strategies for next season.
2pm: Preserving the Harvest.
Host Afke Zonderland of Okanagan Rawsome to discuss Preserving the Harvest with a focus on dehydrating and fermenting!
Registration is VERY helpful to know how many people will attend. We need to have a minimum of 10 people registered to host classes.
You can do that with this form https://forms.gle/DnHqydhmNNHmwp8s6
To make these sessions accessible to all, each talk had a sliding scale fee of $5 – $15 (or by donation.) All fees collected will go towards the cost of the series and to support the Shuswap Community Teaching Garden. Some topics, if they include materials, may have a set fee which will be established before the class.
There is space for children to come and do basic crafts for self-entertainment or participation in a session is encouraged.
A registration for each topic will be created once more of the topics are confirmed and with enough RSVPs with kids, we may look to see about childcare.
This project is created by the Shuswap Food Action Society and is in its 3rd season. It is supported by Buckerfield’s and the Shuswap Agricultural Association. A core value of Shuswap Food Action is education and we aim to provide the opportunity for everyone to be able to learn more about the important skills for playing a large part in one’s own food security.
