About this Event

On Sunday, August 24 from 3 - 7 PM, we invite you to join us at Kenwood Gardens for a special Sunday Service celebrating Frankie Knuckles Day.

DJ Duane Powell will honor the “Godfather of House Music” with a set and ministry of sound carrying forth the communal and liberatory spirit Knuckles embodied. His stewardship extends Knuckles’ archival legacy into an experience where the past, present, and future of House converge, invoking collective liberation.

All are welcome to join the “congregation” two weeks from today as Powell guides us through a journey of presence, joy, and release, honoring Knuckles and one of Chicago’s preeminent Black music traditions.

Rebuild is proud to steward the Frankie Knuckles Collection, an archive of objects, ephemera, and the late Knuckles’s personal vinyl collection, made possible through partnership with the Frankie Knuckles Foundation and fully digitized in 2024. Rooted in our archival mission, this work and Sunday Service preserve Black cultural archives and Knuckles’s enduring legacy, while fostering new forms of gathering and artistic expression.

We can’t wait to celebrate the lineage and legacy of Frankie Knuckles with you in the Garden!

Please note that Sunday Service is an extremely well-attended celebration, and capacity is limited. We are committed to ensuring that our communities feel safe and comfortable while celebrating. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis and only if capacity allows.
