The Lysight Project comprises Palmerston North musicians Emma Griffiths (flute), Kate Rendall (oboe), Emma Mill (clarinet), and Jeff McNeill (bassoon). Formed in 2025, the ensemble was established to explore and enjoy the rich repertoire of woodwind music. All four also perform with the Manawatū Sinfonia and have appeared with orchestras throughout New Zealand and internationally. Their instruments create a compelling blend and contrast of timbres. For this concert, they are joined by well-known local pianist Christine Archer-Lockwood. The programme features music with French and Canadian connections, including the sparkling Deux Esquisses by Canadian–Belgian composer Michel Lysight, the witty yet virtuosic Quartet by Jean Françaix, and the much-loved Trio for oboe, bassoon, and piano by Francis Poulenc. The ensemble will also perform a movement from the jazz-inspired quartet by contemporary Canadian composer Bill Douglas.
The concert begins at 2.30pm.
Admission by donation. Suggested $10.
