About this Event
We absolutely love Museum Our Lord in the Attic—truly, love it. It’s one of Amsterdam’s best-kept secrets, a hidden gem that surprisingly few people visit. Yet it offers one of the most complete and engaging introductions to the Dutch Golden Age you could hope for.
The museum beautifully captures how the young Dutch Republic built its wealth, the diversity of its people, and its pragmatic tradition of tolerating certain practices in order to regulate them. Walking through it feels like stepping straight into a 17th-century genre painting.
Housed in a remarkably well-preserved 400-year-old canal house, the museum gives you an intimate look at everyday life from that era—how people ate, slept, and lived—making history feel vivid, personal, and incredibly real.
Despite the museum being located in the most touristy and gritty part of Amsterdam associated with the red light district, its location in Amsterdam's most historical area was another reason to organise a day of it!
We will visit the museum but also enjoy some real gems in the surrounding area: at 12.00 we will gather at an historical tasting room for coffee and a short introduction to the history of the Wallen and its 13th century beginnings. We will then walk to the museum where we will enjoy a private tour by a specialist guide. After the tour you are welcome to join us to China town, where we have booked a table for lunch.
Please note the price includes a private tour in the area and a private tour inside the museum. It does not include entry into the museum or food and beverages bought. Please bring your Museum Card (Museumkaart), I amsterdam City Card, ICOM card, Rembrandt Association (Vereniging Rembrandt) pass, or VriendenLoterij VIP-KAART if you have one, or book your ticket in advance.
We are happy to book entry tickets for you, if you do not hold any of the above mentioned cards. However, Art & Culture Key cannot book entry to the museum if the request is made less than 7 days before the event. Please also note that a commission of 10% will be charged on tickets booked through us.
This event is limited to a max group size of 12 due to the size of the museum and the busy surrounding areas. Art & Culture Key Members always have priority when booking. Should there be a lot of interest, we will start a waiting list and open up a second slot. You can email us at [email protected] if the group has filled, but you are interested in keeping informed on a possible second slot.
Upon booking you will receive an automated email.
