About this Event
Atiba Kwabena Wilson is the founder and artistic director of Songhai Djeli. He is a recorded musician, published poet and storyteller who has been featured at the "In The Tradition..." Festival of the National Association of Black Storytellers.
Founded in 1985, Songhai Djeli's repertoire is based upon the study of traditional African arts and the ongoing influences upon African culture in the western hemisphere. The ensemble has been featured at the African Arts Festival in Brooklyn, New York and at the FESTAM International Music Festival in Dakar, Senegal. Members of Songhai Djeli have performed and lectured throughout the United States, the Caribbean and Africa.
Today’s program pays tribute to the cultural warriors like Alice Dinizulu who have provided the ongoing connection to our ancestors through music, dance, poetry and storytelling. Come journey with us!
