In Tandem Theatre will hold auditions for the comedy Much Ado About Nothing on:
Saturday, April 18 from 10am-1pm, and Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 12-3pm:
• Age Range – 16 to 70
• Roles: All roles are open except Benedick
• Auditions are open to the general public and those interested are encouraged to audition regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, body type or accommodation.
• You will be asked to perform a 1-2 minute monologue from Shakespeare or other classical source, and you may be asked to read some passages from the script, which will be provided for you at auditions.
• Auditions will be held at the Fond du Lac Public Library in the Community Room on the lower level. Please call Chris on his mobile phone at 414-581-3554 for directions or other questions.
• Rehearsals will commence on Monday, July 13, 2026, and will be held evenings and weekends. The show will open on Thursday, August 27 and runs through Saturday, August 29 with a total of three (3) performances, all at Buttermilk Creek Park.
• Artists will receive a stipend for this project.
• The play is set in Messina and revolves around two romantic pairings that emerge when a group of soldiers arrive in the town. The first, between Claudio and Hero, is nearly thwarted by the accusations of the villain, Don John. The second, between Claudio's friend Benedick and Hero's cousin Beatrice, takes center stage as the play continues, with both characters' wit and banter providing much of the humor. Through "noting" (sounding like "nothing" and meaning gossip, rumor, overhearing), Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into believing that Hero is not a maiden (virgin). The title's play on words references the secrets and trickery that form the backbone of the play's comedy, intrigue, and action.
