SUMUD - Steadfastness in the Face of Occupation
Photo Exhibition and Exhibition Tour
From Nablus to Jericho, learn more about the occupation of Palestine and learn from the people living it. Sumud, meaning 'steadfastness' or 'steadfast perseverance' in Arabic, is a common term used to describe Palestinian nonviolent everyday resistance against Israel's occupation.
Join us at Redeemer Central to engage with a range of photographs from the West Bank in Occupied Palestine taken by Danielle Carragher (Dani Larkin) in 2016 and by Lou McGowan in 2024. Danielle spent three months in the West Bank working with Project Hope as a music facilitator primarily in Nablus and Lou spent three months in the West Bank with EAPPI (Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel) this summer as a human rights monitor.
The photographs taken by Danielle and Lou will depict some of the everyday violence enacted by the occupation and simultaneously the sumud of Palestinian people in their everyday resistance. Danielle and Lou will give a tour of the exhibition and open up a conversation around some of the realities behind the photographs.
See you there!
