About this Event

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:

This lively workshop will explore improvisational comedy to enhance creativity and imagination with the ultimate goal of generating fresh ideas. A mix of interactive improv games will catalyze and rekindle writers' innate storytelling instincts by tapping into imaginative flow as they release inner critics and overthinking. Participants will practice active listening, co-creativity, and risk-taking to get out of habitual thinking patterns. Literature has its roots in oral traditions and collective story crafting; through spontaneity and imagining out loud together, we will channel that collaborative energy into outside-the-box inspiration. This will be a supportive environment where taking creative risks is celebrated. No prior improv or acting experience is necessary.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Monica Shah is a professional educator who holds a BS from Penn State, and an EdM from Harvard University focused on education and program development. The author of multiple essays and several books for teens, she is also a poet whose work has appeared in literary magazines and anthologies. Monica’s background in the performing arts includes writing, directing, acting and producing. The common thread that runs through her diverse experiences and interests, from working with medicinal plants to filmmaking, is an intrinsic spirit for exploration and discovery and the expertise to empower others in unlocking their own imaginative potential.
