The longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, marked an annual turning point both today and in the ancient past. After the Summer Solstice, we can expect fair weather, warm afternoons, and all of the fun activities that come with the summer season. In ancient times, the long days of summer were welcomed as they brought about mild temperatures and, hopefully, a bountiful growing season.Celebrate this astronomical event at America's Stonehenge, an ancient observatory and ceremonial site in Salem, New Hampshire. The museum will be open from sunrise to sunset to view the solar alignments and explore the megalithic ruins. A drum circle will also be held during the hour leading up to sunset to celebrate the day.
General admission to the museum is valid all day (from sunrise to sunset) with unlimited re-entry.
