About this Event
Summer Sewing Club is a creative and fun weekly workshop for children aged 8–16 to help build confidence in making skills, reduces screen time, foster social interaction in a creative setting, to support positive feedback between ages, encourage mentoring skills, and promote good mental health through making. Each 90-minute session focuses on a mini project, so participants leave with an item they’ve made themselves—perfect for building confidence and skills while having fun.
Across the summer, children will learn:
- Sewing basics: threading needles, knots, seams, hems, simple fastenings, decorative stitches, basic construction techniques
- Machine sewing skills (in selected sessions, age/ability dependent)
- Measuring, cutting safely, pinning, and using simple patterns/templates
- Printing and stencilling on fabric to personalise their work
- Finishing techniques so projects look neat and “properly made”
