On Thursday, June 20 from 1pm-2:30pm, I'll present "Summer of Soulstice: Soul Music of the Late 1960s" at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco at 3200 California Street. This will feature film performances of the time from such greats at Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Sly Stone, the 5th Dimensoin, David Ruffin, Hugh Masekela, the Chambers Brothers, Nina Simone, B.B. King, the Staple Singers, and others. This will be held just a couple days after the Jewish Community Center presents a screening of the 2021 documentary Summer of Soul, which spotlights music from a 1969 Harlem summer festival, on Tuesday, June 18 from 1pm-3pm. Admission to both events is free, though registration to the Summer of Soulstice event is recommended through https://www.jccsf.org/event/summer-of-soulstice-soul-music-of-the-late-1960s/.
