Summer Learning Institute: The Summer Learning Institute (SLI) is an intensive institute designed for Umoja Community program faculty, staff, and administration. The training immerses attendees in the philosophy, pedagogy, theoretical foundations, and best practices based on the Umoja Community Education Foundation. Educators from California Community Colleges have the opportunity to engage in courageous and bold discussions about education practices that stimulate the genius of our students. Participants are encouraged to attend in college teams of 5 for more intentional knowledge sharing and coherence making at their respective institutions. Examples of the content presented at the SLI include program structure and implementation, critical exploration of African centered socialization and education, student success metrics and data-based strategies, exploration of the Umoja Practices, and culturally relevant approaches to college instruction and student support services.
