Sarau Sessions is an invitation to cross borders and blur the lines between artistic languages, to welcome performance artists from any nationality. The event was embodying the experimentalism of process-led artworks.
A collective celebration among artistic languages, where everyone is called to participate by sharing artistic practice or joining the welcoming audience. Where the art in progress is applauded for being raw while we share processes about borders.
This initiative has not only served to amplify the voices of transcultural artists but has also fostered a nurturing environment where participants feel emboldened to share their artistic insights, culminating in an engaging open mic session at the end of the event.
Crafted and spearheaded by Marcela Bannitz, who seamlessly juggles roles as the artistic director, arts manager, and performer, Sarau Sessions premiered at the People’s Pavilion at IMMA in 2022. Following its acclaim, the project received an invitation for an encore in 2023 and is now gearing up for its anticipated return to IMMA this August!
