Sultan’s Fest

Midnight Breeze Bellydance Company invites community members and dancers from Central Texas and beyond to participate in dance workshops during the day, the Sultan's Fest Showcase packed with talented dancers in the evening, and shopping all day long.

Info: Fluttering silk, voodoo, and M**der. In this workshop, participants will learn a fan veil choreography to a dark, jazzy tune while incorporating the two fan veils for tricks and framing for the entirety of the song. No fan veil experience necessary, but do bring your own fan veils.

Info: Does dancing with Zills seem daunting? Don’t let it be! Zills are an almost lost art form, but are one of the most ubiquitous hallmarks of a bellydancer! Learn how to listen to the music to play effectively and not be overwhelmed by the idea of playing and dancing. We will also use “mnemonics” to help get a handle on the rhythms! Simple practice steps and basic rhythms will give you the means to “illustrate” the music and the moves. All levels.

Info: Dynamism and contrast are essential to creating visual texture in a performance. Using a variety of combinations, this workshop explores the juxtaposition of sinuous, grounded belly dance technique with explosive, high-impact movement qualities.

Info: This workshop is set at a beginner/intermediate level, and incorporates multiple styles of Raqs Sharqi, Fusion Bellydance, Waving, and Contemporary dance. Undulating layers atop fancy footwork with unexpected, atypical and complex pathways. This choreography includes floor work with level up (or down) options for dancers who prefer not to go to the floor.
