According to the CDC, suicide rates for people aged 10–24 increased from 2007 through 2021. The suicide rate among people aged 10–24 increased 62% from 2007 through 2021, growing from 6.8 deaths per 100,000 to 11.0.


Learning Objectives - This workshop is designed to help you:


  • Discuss the appropriate language to use when addressing suicide and attempted suicides.
  • Describe the epidemiology of suicides, including ages, methods, and characteristics of victims and survivors, with an emphasis on children and teens.
  • List available resources for survivors of suicide, families before and after an attempt or a completed suicide, and the community.
  • Explain the services available at the Houston Area Suicide Prevention Coalition.
  • Utilize the experiences of a survivor’s story of struggle, hope, and recovery.


Who Should Attend: This workshop is designed for professionals who work with children, families and in the field of child abuse. This includes professionals in child advocacy, children’s protective services, social work, counseling, mental health, education, law enforcement, legal professionals, medical professionals, and more.
