Substance Use Check-In Circle w/ Meghan

Let’s face it, many of us are having a hard time regulating our emotions these days and some of us have turned to substances to help us cope. Drug use can be a great way to find joy, euphoria, rest, connection, and creativity. Many are tapping into the potentials of entheogens as we all ride this new Psychedelic healing wave.
The point is, drugs are not inherently good or bad, it’s up to each of us to decide that for ourselves. Recognizing what was 'good' for me last year, may not be as helpful this week, can be a nuanced and confusing process. Sometimes, talking about our drug use in a safe and non-judgmental container can help us recognize what is helping, what is hurting, and what is neutral.
Let’s come together and have brave conversations about our relationships with substances. Through peer support, mindfulness, consensual and strength-based feedback, maybe we can empower each other to make better choices. This circle will be rooted in Harm Reduction philosophies and principles, such as: respect, compassion, dignity, and autonomy. Our strength is in our ability to be gentle and vulnerable with ourselves and others.

• Participants will have access to tools and resources to help them on their journey. This is a Peer-Led, Non-Clinical support space. If folks are experiencing a crisis or have an urgent need for treatment and support, proper referrals and linkages to care can be provided.

About the facilitator:

Meghan Hetfield is a Nationally Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist, Certified Addiction Recovery Coach and Certified Recovery Peer Advocate living in New York's Hudson Valley Region. As a Peer and Recovery coach, she has worked in Hospitals, Jails, Schools, Clinics and Communities and is currently supporting people's wellness goals around Mental Health and Substance Use at a National Peer Support Tech-Startup.
When she's not talking about Harm Reduction, Drug Policy reform and 'meeting people where they're at,' Meghan is usually leading folks through the woods as a Certified Wild Edible & Medicinal Mushroom Foraging guide in hopes to share the healing that can be found in nature.
