Learn how to edit and proofread copy with confidence
Taught by a former Sydney Morning Herald editor and journalist, this sub-editing and proofreading course is fun and practical with plenty of exercises.
Only eight places are available to ensure every participant receives personalised attention.
Digital handbooks and certificates will be given, in addition to a recording of the webinar.
The course will be taught over two half days on Zoom.
First day (18 February)
- How to tighten sentences.
- Writing in the active voice.
- Using positive phrasing.
- Writing strong intros.
- Making sure the lead isn’t buried.
- Connecting paragraphs.
- How to structure articles.
- Knowing when to change other people's work.
- How to cut copy.
Second day (19 February)
- Grammar tips.
- Punctuation tips on apostrophes, commas, hyphens, dashes, semicolons and more.
- Search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques.
- Writing strong headlines for both print and online.
- Proofreading tips and tricks.
- Proofreading mark-up symbols.
- How to manage production flow.
- Tips on working with writers and designers.
- Defamation and media law tips.
- Question time (people can also ask questions throughout the course as well).
Whether you’re a journalist, content producer, blogger or work in marketing and communications, this editing and proofreading course will teach you how to improve other people’s copy (as well as your own).
