ABOUT THE ARTIST
John Agnew has spent a lifetime exploring the beauty and complexity of the natural world. With a background in museum curation and exhibit design, his murals and dioramas can be found in institutions from the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History to the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences—and even as far as Moscow.
Now, Agnew turns his focus to fine art, working primarily in scratchboard and plein air painting. His art merges scientific precision with expressive composition, influenced by 19th-century zoological engravings and his mother’s abstract expressionism. Through this unique lens, he shines a light on the overlooked and often “unloved” creatures of our world, showing that every species is worthy of respect and admiration.
His work has been exhibited internationally, published in books and magazines, and featured in U.S. embassies abroad. This exhibition at Studio Kroner offers an intimate look into Agnew’s artistic journey—where science, nature, and creativity converge.
