About this Event
Most people don’t have a shooting problem. They have a decision problem.
Too much reacting. Not enough directing.
This workshop is about tightening that up.
On July 5, we’re working through studio portraiture in a way that’s slower, more deliberate, and a lot more honest about what’s actually happening on set. I’ll be tethered during demos, so you’re watching the frame come together as we build it. Light placement, exposure shifts, expression changes, subtle pose tweaks… you’ll see what works, what doesn’t, and why, in real time.
Briana Noir's co-instruction, which is an integral part of what makes this workshop different, is a major aspect of how beneficial this class is – from photographer and model perspective. You’ll see how she reads light, adjusts her posing in real time, and shapes the image just as much as the photographer does (plus tons of open Q&A throughout). We’ll be breaking down that collaboration from both sides so you understand how to actually work with your subject, not just direct them.
No mystery. No “trust me, it’ll look good later.”
We’re focusing on control. No, not control in a rigid sense, but control in knowing what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, as it all comes together to attain your vision.
Here’s where we’ll spend our time:
- Shaping light with intention instead of just placing it
- Disconnecting old habits about focal length, composition and framing
- Directing mood so the image has a pulse, not just a pose
- Working with your subject so the image feels cohesive
- Understanding your own taste so your work starts to "look like you"
- Learning to start seeing yourself as an artist with a vision
You’ll shoot. Plenty. But the goal isn’t volume. It’s awareness.
I keep these small for a reason. You’re not just watching me work from across the room. You’re in it, asking questions, adjusting, seeing the result immediately.
If you’ve ever walked away from a shoot feeling like you got something decent but not quite what you had in your head, this is for that gap.
July 5.
We’ll slow it down, dial it in, and build something that actually holds up.
There is also a limited availability to book with Briana Noir one on one afterwards (for an additional fee, paid hourly to Briana) at the studio immediately following the class. For additional questions, contact .
