About this Event
What are we getting into?
This workshop gets into the basics of concrete casting, where participants will learn to mix Montana paints directly into concrete to create bold, beautiful DIY art objects. From coasters, candle holders, ashtrays, and cassette tapes, each participant will walk away with their own custom concrete art piece. No experience necessary—just come ready to get your hands dirty and create.
$25 to attend class + make 1 piece [+.platform fee]
$10 for each additional casted piece [+ platform fee]
Who is Robyn aka RYSQ?
Trained as an architect and working on the construction building industry since 2004 she has contributed to dozens of buildings in the city coordinating all trades with a focus on concrete superstructures and foundations. In the shadows and reflections of her full time career she cultivated a design collective under her street art name RYSQ (pronounced risk) to scale ideas often times sharing space in the back of garages and warehouses throughout the boroughs.
Why now?
In recent years her oeuvre took a deep dive into experimenting with techniques to alter the formula composition of concrete in a bright, textured, and more sustainable way. Her initial experiments started with Montana paint from the flagship on Rivington and supplies often coming from her local hardware store block away.
The experiments have taken her on some inspiring adventures the last couple of years to Upstate NY, California, & Japan to develop a progressive art co-op on a shoestring budget and expand the toolbox of materials to source for this endeavour.
Its time to rewind and return to her roots for where the inspiration started ON RIVINGTON.
Lets support local at the epic new Studio 6 Gallery and Event Space and sourcing all of the material from our favorite local flagship paint shop and hardware store on Rivington
