STRING SERIES explores experimental approaches to string instruments, being quiet or loud, composed or improvised, acoustic or processed—anything is possible as long as the sound originates from a string. The aim is to present a range of diverse practices from artists of different backgrounds. With these events, we'd be happy to create opportunities for collaboration and expand the network of musicians working with stringed instruments.

TUOMAS TOIVONEN
"Tuomas Toivonen is an architect, musician and artist. His music output spans over four decades and various collaborations, as vocalist, band leader, electroacoustic musician and producer.
From the consistent metropolitan pulse of the newly reawakened Giant Robot ensemble and his architecture lectures set to music on solo releases New Album and Urbanism in the House to field-recorded near-silent performances of In the forest, I tell my child, we should stop and be, the slow electronic mediatative crossings with a jazz ensemble on Turhaan erotti kaukonäköinen jumala… or the heavy, tensioned drone works with Kaukolampi on Monoliitti, there is a constant underlying insistence on the capacity of sound and words to change how we see, feel and understand the world around us by arresting and modulating our perception of time, space, context and narrative.
The work Tuomas will develop in STRING SERIES is based on exploring sympathetic resonances between a self-built electroacoustic long-string instrument, a 50Hz oscillator and human voice."

"Wavefront plays with evolving patterns and textures, weaving organic and chaotic elements into the electronic compositions. His instrumentation includes electric cello processed through a modular synth and pedals, analog synthesised sounds and percussion sampled from an electroacoustic contraption of their own making."

JUHO PÄTÄRI
"Juho Pätäri has been playing guitar for over thirty years in many alternative rock, experimental, and heavier music bands, as well as solo. The Sunday's performance will be in two parts: The first part is an experiment with an electric guitar, an amplifier, distortion pedals, control of volume and sound, feedback and resonance, playing and not playing, tension and energy. The second part is an improvisation with an acoustic guitar.
