HCSCC will be hosting a presentation and workshop on human hair artwork on April 25 featuring artist Karen Keenan. She will first present on the history of the art form at 1pm and will host a workshop from 2 to 6pm. The workshop is a TICKETED EVENT! You need to buy a ticket to go to the workshop (link in FB event).
Her presentation Human Hair As Fiber: Stories of Reviving Hairwork in the Midwest will focus on the history of the custom, her experience with learning different weaving techniques, and how others can learn more. art form. The presentation is free and open to the public supported in part by general operating support from the Alex Stern Family Foundation, the FM Area Foundation, and The Arts Partnership with support from Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo.
Following this will be a workshop focusing on the gimping technique, the most versatile of hair weaving techniques. Students will work with hair provided by Karen. YOU NEED A TICKET TO THE WORKSHOP (The link to the tickets to the workshop is on the FB event page). The class is limited to 10 participants and those 18 years or older. All skill levels are welcomed to attend.
