On April 25th, 2026, Stout PGH – Team Renzo Gracie will be hosting another Pittsburgh BJJ Tournament for adults in NOGI
About this Event

On April 25, 2026, Stout PGH will be hosting another Pittsburgh BJJ NOGI Tournament with men’s & women’s divisions, in beginners (white belts) & for blue belts we will host our Stout Fights Qualifier for Blue Belts for Our Stout Fights Grappling event on May 30, 2026. Purple, Brown & Black Belt Competitors can apply directly at stoutfights on instagram for the December 20th show.

This is the only way for blue belts to qualify for a match on the May 30th show outside of our "exceptional exemption" rule.

This is a great opportunity for white belts to start competing in a relaxed environment without spending a lot of money or for anyone looking for a good “tune-up” tournament to prepare for a competition later. With a double elimination format competitors can expect to get a minimum of two matches. We will use a modified Grappling Industries ruleset for beginners brackets (white belts but allowing straight ankle locks) & Stout Fights Submission Only with Stout Fights OT for the Blue Belt Qualifier for our May 30th event.

QUALIFIER RULESET ONLY:

New Stout Fights Ruleset (Adopted from High Rollerz BJJ)

We want our matches to be submission focused for a spectator friendly event

Sub Only Regulation with 6 minute matches, as all of our matches are blue belt and up we will allow all submissions

Banned Techniques

No Slams allowed of any kind at blue or purple belt

Brown & black belts may slam out of submissions

No slams to purposefully cause damage to head or spine allowed at any level

Overtime

Each competitor will start in back control for a one minute overtime period. Match will continue for the duration of the overtime period even with an escape from back control. Match automatically ends with a submission

If no submission occurs after two back control starts (one for each competitor) then there will be a third one minute overtime period. Third overtime period competitors will start on feat with sudden death points scoring. First competitor to score a takedown, sweep, pass or submission wins.

A snapdown and spin behind for control will constitute a takedown.

Referees Decision

If no points are scored or submission occurs during overtime periods, the match goes to a referee's decision. There are two criteria for determining a winner.

First criteria: Whichever competitor had a higher number of legitimate submission attempts which were defended.

Second criteria: If no submissions were attempted during the match, then the competitor who exhibited more positional control for a longer duration of time will win.

Referees decisions are by nature subjective so we ask competitors to be as active as possible in attempts to secure a win via submission to avoid this outcome.

Stalling

If a competitor is verbally warned for stalling three times they are disqualified automatically

What constitutes as stalling:

Purposefully pushing opponent out of bounds

Passivity (No offensive attempts from one or both competitors)

Out of Bounds

If a competitor runs out of bounds to escape a submission attempt, referee will call time and reset in the center on the feet

Competitor who ran out is given one runout only per match

A second runout results in a disqualification

If during the course of the match the competitors go out of bounds due to activity (No runout), the match resets in the center:

  • In a dynamic position (i.e. a scramble) match restarts on feet
  • In a static position (i.e. a guard, side control, etc.) match restarts as close as possible in the position in the middle of the mat

WHITE BELT RULESET ONLY

Five minute match with 1 minute sudden death overtime if necessary

Points:

Takedown - 2 pts

Sweep from Guard - 2 pts

Guard Pass - 3 pts

Knee on Belly - 2 pts

Mount/Back Mount - 4 pts

Back Control - 4 pts

White belts ruleset will ban all guard jumping, flying submissions and all leg locks except for ankle locks

You can do the bracket that is appropriate to your belt level if you have more experience than listed on the brackets (i.e. 2 year white belt, 4 year blue belt, etc.) This tournament once again, is open to any competitors, regardless of school or team affiliation!

Weight classes for men’s divisions will be 145 and below, 145-155, 155-170, 170-190, 190-220, & >220. (Reminder, if your weight is above the weight class you *cannot* do that weight class. You can email up until midnight on Thursday Nov 6th if you need to change weight classes. Missing weights will result in a DQ.)

As this is NOGI competitors will be required to wear a rash guard/compression shirt and board shorts (no metal zippers or buttons, and no loose fitting t-shirts)

Weight classes for women's divisions will be 132 and below & 133 and above. We will add more weight classes for women if there are enough registrations to warrant so.
