Join us for the our last Storytime Sunday of the year! On Waverly’s 11/17 Storytime Sunday will feature 2 incredible AAPI children's book authors: Isabella Kung and Nicole Chen. Little ones will get a chance to get read excerpts from 2 books, receive their own "storytime passport" that they can use to collect signatures from authors, and do fun crafts inspired by the stories. Don’t miss this special event that fosters a love for books, culture, and community!About Nicole:Nicole Chen’s experience growing up Taiwanese American, and the blend of Catalan, Spanish, Taiwanese and American influences in her present home, fuels her desire to write and tell stories that reflect a diverse and multicultural American identity. Nicole lives in sunny California with her Andorran husband and young daughter. Her debut picture book, HOW WE SAY I LOVE YOU, illustrated by Lenny Wen and published by Knopf BFYR (December 2022) was a Target Book Club pick and selected by the Dollywood Foundation for inclusion in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. Her debut middle grade novel, IT’S BOBA TIME FOR PEARL LI!, from Quill Tree/Harper Collins (February 2023) is a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. Her third book, middle grade historical fiction novel LILY XIAO SPEAKS OUT, was released on May 7th, 2024. (Scholastic, 2020), about a fuzzy feline Queen that was described as an “expressive, endearing little chunk of well-meaning evil” by Kirkus Reviews. The sequel NO SNOWBALL! (Scholastic, 2022) introduces an adorable interloper to the Queendom! Isabella also illustrated over 120 cats for the board books 123 CATS and ABC CATS by Lesléa Newman (Candlewick, 2021), which were listed in Bank Street College of Education’s Best Children’s Books of the Year 2022 edition. Her next book NUNU AND THE SEA will be taking the shelves by storm in Fall 2025 (Knopf Books for Young Readers). Her illustrations have received accolades from institutions such as the Society of Illustrators, Spectrum Fantasy Art, 3x3, Creative Quarterly, and SCBWI. Outside the world of publishing, Isabella teaches illustration and watercolor classes at Storyteller Academy and California College of Arts.
