Storytelling with Theresa Teller: An Evening of Music and Art
Come join us at the Enterprise Resource Center for an evening with stigma-fighting public speaker, musician, and author, Theresa Teller, as she shares her story of recovery, resilience, and living a life of thriving with mental illness. Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience!
Theresa San Luis Teller fights stigma on a daily basis coping with her diagnosis of
schizoaffective thoughts disorder with OCD and delusions. She was first diagnosed as a
sophomore at the University of Notre Dame with psychosis. There she earned B.A.’s in
English and music, and earned two master’s degrees: one in mass communication and
her second in public administration from Illinois colleges. She has been a public speaker
for NAMI since 2009 and does Tuning Out Stigma presentations enhancing her story-
telling with original music on the piano. She is publishing a book titled “My Brain Makes
Me Proud: My Journey Through Schizoaffective Disorder and Anxiety” which will be
released January 19, 2026, on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Theresa will present how she met the various challenges in her life, such as overcoming
depression through improv comedy, writing and playing music as a form of therapy,
praying and worshiping with her pastor husband Nick to find peace in her faith and
support in life. Medic*tion and psychotherapy have proven invaluable and game-changing
for Theresa, who has been hospitalized four times since age 19. Today at 46,
she is going strong with a message of hope to cope with mental illness. She works in a
memory care unit as life guidance program specialist at Atria Park and is the mother of
5-year-old twin daughters.
