Instructor - Patrick Goguen
Patrick Goguen is a Boston-based interdisciplinary artist. He graduated MassArt in 2012, with a BFA in sculpture. He has timber-framed in Poland, built an elephant toy, curated and installed artworks throughout New England, and spent 6 years running a non-for-profit bicycle shop. He works as an Art Handler in Boston, MA and is leading the development of the gallery at Artisans Asylum.
Class Description
Do you look at calls for art where the requirements of the gallery/ museums ask artists to provided reusable packing/shipping materials? And you don’t know where to start? Do you want to store your artwork, so it doesn’t get dirty from your studio?
Material Fee
The materials fee for this class is $100. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments in cash or through Venmo or Paypal.
Class Goals
In this two-hour workshop, participants will be introduced to the world of art Packing- the materials, tools, and techniques used to pack, store, and ship 3D work. Students will make a custom foam core box, use laminated foam to void fill around a 3D object, build a 2ply custom cardboard box, adding additional foam to make pieces safe to ship. They will leave with documentation and a step-by-step guide to pack future projects.
Material Supplied
Each person will be provided with an art packing kit, including:
- HDPE Poly
- Polyethylene Foam
- Cardboard
- Paper tape
- 1/2 foam core board
- olfa lax utility knife
- tape dispenser
- straight edge t-square
- velcro
- tape measure
- sharpie
Students Should Bring
Participants are welcome to bring a 3D work they want to pack/ ship up to 16”x16”x16” (for larger works extra materials will be provided at cost, or a suitable object for those who do not have an object to pack).
Prerequisites
Students must be 16 years old or older. Students under 18 must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.
Students must be comfortable handling a utility knife.
